10/04/98 Willie Pig Adoption

"Willie G. Davidson" the potbellied pig lived out his days here on Black Pond Farm.  He was over 6 years old when we adopted him back in September of 1998.

Tim and I knew for a few months now that he was coming to the end of his days and were on "pig watch" during our recent cold weather.

Because he was keeping an eye on him, Tim found Piggy just after he had passed away.  (Still all warm and cozy in his pig house.)  He had a good life.  We will miss him.

Like all our adopted critters, he had a story.  He had been left out in the sun, and like humans, pigs are the only other mammal that can get sunburned.  His skin was in poor condition and he was never very pretty to look at.  He was a swell pig and a finer pig you'll likely never meet.

Once, he helped to raise a batch of chicks.  They would snuggle up to him to keep warm and rode around the property on his back.  They "groomed" him and followed him around.  When they grew up, the friendship continued and when they had chicks of their own, they followed him around too.
