A Flashing "DINER" Sign On Our Roof

June 2002

Predators like bobcats, mountain lions, coyotes, hawks and bald eagles (and many others) are a natural part of country life.  As we have reminded folks since we bought our farm in 1997, we moved into the predators' neighborhood -- not the other way around.

Up until recently, I wasn't able to get photos of these amazing creatures.

Black Pond Farm is a place where the chickens are

free range and the bunnies roam free!

Our cabin must have a flashing "DINER" sign installed with the new roof.

June was a big month for sightings.

Now, I'm not much of a wildlife photographer, but you can at least make out what is in the photos...

The first to show up was a coyote.  Pretty brazen as it walked right through the pasture with our livestock grazing contently.  The cows and horses ignored it completely, as if it has been a long-time companion.  However, if a domestic dog would have entered the pasture, it would have been a much different story!

The next "visitor" caught me by complete surprise!  We are accustomed to spotting hawks and some huge beautiful blue herons snatching our rainbow trout but this...

"Is that a bald eagle?"
