New Windows For The Drafty Cabin!

Return To Black Pond Farm Home Page

Our new windows were installed in the summer of 2000.

Replacing the old single-paned aluminum windows was very high on the "to do" list when we bought the cabin.  It was right behind having flooring put in...which (at that time) was painted plywood throughout the upstairs and cement downstairs!

The daylight basement had been used for a "growing operation" by the previous occupants and had been closed off. We could see one small room at the base of the stairs, but wondered where the rest of the 1440 square foot house was "hidden".  There was a "secret access" under the stairs and another way in through french doors hidden in a shed that attached to the house.

Once inside the "hidden rooms" we found piles of potting soil and all the windows boarded over.  However, the previous occupants had put curtains in the windows first to give the illusion of bedrooms from the outside. The walls were full of holes, but fortunately, all the electrical was still in place!

We have since punched a doorway through, installed a wall and new 6 foot closet (Thanks to Rich and Dean!).  We went from a one bedroom house to a 4 bedroom home with a "rec room"!

The new windows are GREAT!  We had trim added to the windows, which hadn't been there before.  I took great care in selecting the trim color and actually had to repaint when I wasn't pleased with the original color I had mixed.  (It would have been gorgeous on a beach house, but clashed horribly with the green of the timber that surrounds our place).

The color is a cross between forest-green and a teal-blue.  Very "woodsy"!  When I get up the courage, I'll shimmy up a tall ladder and paint the eves the same color.

Our new windows were professionally Installed by the great folks at:

Einer Johanson

Insulation & Glass, Inc.

www.ejseattle.com or 1-800-365-4100

They are based out of Seattle, Washington, yet their installer made the hour long commute daily until the job was completed!  He was so great that we had him back to install our new sliding glass door!
